TJ McConnell

TJ McConnell was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, where he played for his father at Chartiers Valley High School. TJ’s journey to the NBA embodies “one small step” at a time. He played two seasons at Duquesne University before transferring to Arizona with a desire to compete for a National Championship. There, he led Arizona to back-to-back Elite 8 appearances in the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. He came out of Arizona undrafted but earned himself a roster spot during his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers. One small step.

In his own words, the NBA is a league of change, and, unless you’re the star, you must adapt to it the best to survive. After his time at the 76ers, he signed a long-term contract and found a home with the Indiana Pacers in 2021, where he later broke the NBA record for most steals in a half (9) that year. In that same record-breaking game, he recorded a triple-double with points, steals, and assists – the first to ever do so off the bench.

TJ is one of the NBA’s best underdog stories and top point guards with his endless energy, team mentality, full-court defense, positioning, and excellent decision-making. From a small university in his hometown of Pittsburgh to going undrafted, to becoming an invaluable part of the Pacers with a standout season and playoff run in 2023-2024, TJ’s “one small step” at a time mentality shows what perseverance, hard work, and believing in yourself can do.
