Senior Awarded First Leading Informatics for Tomorrow Scholarship from IUPUI

May 18, 2017

Alvaro Gomez has been awarded the first Leading Informatics for Tomorrow (LiFT) Scholarship from the IUPUI School of Informatics & Computing.

Alvaro has been part of the School of Informatics' iDEW program for the last couple of years.

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the program seeks to increase the quality and quantity of IT professionals by offering scholarships to talented, underrepresented minority high school graduates.

"I feel like the class really showed me what I was capable of with technology," says Alvaro.

The scholarship will make it possible for him to live on campus at IUPUI, making it easier for him to get to class and become

more involved in student life activities.

"I was so surprised when I found out. It happened so fast, but I am really excited to go there in the fall."
